Capucine Safir

Born in Paris, France, Capucine Safir now lives in Miami. After working for several years in the movie industry, she decided to change careers and earned a degree in interior design in Australia, where she lived for three years. She then returned to Paris, where she opened her own interior design firm. Soon thereafter, she discovered the art of stone carving, an art form that, to her, is not only “immediately natural” but came naturally to her.

It was after her second expatriation, in Miami, in 2013, that Capucine became a professional artist, extending her practice to other materials and techniques. “Through my art, I explore Nature with her pure and random forms,” she says. “Femininity in its roundness, strength and complexity, is another significant inspiration. I like contrast. My sculptures seem light but they are massive, they are soft but strong in what they embody. I work on instinct, striving to restore softness and sensuality to the real.”

Within her first year in Miami, Capucine secured representation with a local gallery. Since then, her sculptures have become part of numerous private collections and are regularly exhibited in contemporary art galleries and fairs throughout the United States and in France.
